CYCLING

We welcome cyclists to our Gillingham, Dorset B&B and are located on National Route 25 of the National Cycle Network. This connects with route 24 at Longleat and runs south through Gillingham to Bournemouth on the coast. Why not base yourself and your bicycles here for a few days and experience one of the many great rides in the area? A very popular route is from the house to Stourhead, Arthur’s Tower and back via Zeals; you’ll cross the Wiltshire county line, see some amazing views and cover about 10 miles – but there are some great pubs along the way!

Setting off on the Tour de Blackmore Vale!

Our local cycle shop is very friendly and always welcomes visitors to their 9.00 am Saturday group ride – we can provide further details if you’re interested. And of course,  your bicycles will always be safe and secure overnight in our locked garage.

Feedback from cycling guests Jenny and Tom:

Only a one night stay but we felt very welcome. A comfortable bed and a lovely breakfast set us up to explore the area on our bikes today and we look forward to coming back soon. Thank you Cleo!

MOTORCYCLING

Something to read?

Steve has worked in the motorcycle trade for over thirty years and has been running his own business as a motorcycle trader since 2004 – check him out online at Bid for Bikes for further details.  As you will see from our shelves,  he has a very comprehensive selection of books on the topic and really loves to meet other bikers, talk about bikes and ride bikes, as well as buy and sell them.

We often play host to his customers,  who make their own way to Dorset (of course,  we’re always happy to pick guests up from the Gillingham (Dorset) train station), spend the night and enjoy breakfast, prior to riding their new motorcycle home the following day.

We are very happy to welcome bikers as guests, whether you need to break your journey and soak off the strains of the day in the hot tub, or use us as a base for a local touring holiday. We can provide a safe, locked storage place for your bikes and helmets, hanging space for riding kit and advice/guidance on great motor biking routes as required.

Feedback from biker guest Eddie:

A fantastic stay! Exactly as described – I felt relaxed and recharged by the time I left. Friendly welcoming hosts, Cleo really couldn’t have done anymore to make me feel at home. I travelled on my Harley Davidson which Cleo and Steve kindly offered to store in the garage overnight for extra security (although I wouldn’t have worried at all about parking it outside the house overnight as the neighbourhood feels very quiet and secluded). The hot tub was amazing, no more I can say other than that. The breakfast was a fantastic nutritious offering that kept me filled up throughout the day. I will definitely be considering this place again to stay on any future visits around the North Dorset area. 5* rating!

WALKING

Walkers on the Stour Valley Way

If you’re a walker, you will love a visit to North Dorset – we are on the Stour Valley Way and Gillingham is a ‘Walkers are Welcome’ town.  We have played host to many guests who were rambling through the Blackmore Vale and we are always more than happy to help them start their trip to the area by collecting them from the local railway station, storing their walking poles or recommending lovely places to eat within a short walk of the house.

The 2017 Gillingham Walking Festival takes place between 2nd-10th September – book your accommodation now.

Feedback from walker guest Louise:

This was our first overnight stop on our walk along the Stour Valley Way from Stourhead to Hengistbury Head (64 miles). Cleo offered us a very welcome cup of tea and home-made cake when we arrived, and it was lovely to have our own sitting room to relax in. We also walked to one of her recommended restaurants and had a lovely meal before collapsing into a VERY comfortable bed!
