‘Sunflowers’ is a beautiful, contemporary Bed and Breakfast in Gillingham, north Dorset (with a hot tub) where we offer you a home-from-home welcome: somewhere we hope you will feel relaxed and at ease.
Arrive and enjoy tea and locally made biscuits/cake (or even a glass of wine, depending on the time!), then check out our comprehensive file of local information and consider how you’ll spend your stay in Dorset, Somerset or Wiltshire.
Sleep peacefully in one of our comfortable bedrooms, with high thread count cotton sheets, plenty of pillows, hairdryers, fluffy robes, black out blinds, luxury toiletries and Freeview TV.
We offer three rooms which can be configured in a number of ways – please let us know which room(s) you’d like to book and who is in your party when you make your enquiry.
Room One – Church View: This is a large en-suite double or twin bedroom, with high thread count cotton sheets, extremely comfortable bed(s), plenty of pillows, a black out blind and tea, coffee and hot chocolate making facilities, with a choice of biscuits, bottled water and fresh milk. The room (which was re-decorated in November 2017) also offers a wardrobe with ample hanging space, two fluffy robes, coat hangers, a Freeview TV, a DVD player (feel free to borrow one of our DVDs), a hairdryer and an alarm clock. Refresh yourself in the spacious en-suite shower room, fully supplied with toiletries, lots of fluffy towels and a free standing shower cubicle.
WE ARE A FAMILY FRIENDLY B&B!
Room One is well proportioned and there is plenty of space for you to put up your own travel cot if you are travelling with a baby, or we can add in an additional single bed by arrangement and for a further charge. As an additional family-friendly security measure, we have a stair gate at the top of the stairs and there is also a night light on the landing. And we have a selection of family-friendly DVDs available for your use and even a mini ‘Hello Kitty’ robe which will fit a child aged c. 7-10.
This was a really good find. Cleo and Steve were wonderful hosts, so friendly and accommodating. We had a double room and a single room and a lounge to use. There wasn’t another thing we could possibly have needed. Both bedrooms had TV (plus DVD player and kettle with a huge variety of drinks in the double). We were welcome to use anything that was in the breakfast room and Cleo was happy to provide us with glasses, plates etc when we ate in that night. The hot tub was absolutely brilliant. They were wonderful with our very talkative 7 year old daughter. The only shame was that we were only there for one night. Would definitely go back again. Thank you so much, Cleo and Steve.
Room Two – Garden View: This is a single bedded room (decorated in January 2017), made up with the same high quality bed linens, also with a black out blind, and offering a Freeview TV, a hanging rail, an alarm clock, a hairdryer, bottled water and a bath robe (adult size; child’s robe also available upon request). This room has the sole, private use of a separate bathroom with a screened rain head power shower attachment over the bath. Room Two is often (but not exclusively!) used by our younger guests and we do our best to welcome them with a selection of books and toys. With advance notice and for an additional charge, Room Two can also be temporarily configured as a twin bedded room, suitable for either an adult and child (under 12) or two children (one aged under 12).
Room Three – Blackmore Vale View: This is our second en-suite double bedroom, with a new double bed (from the award winning Warren Evans, purchased in October 2016), high thread count cotton sheets, plenty of pillows, a black out blind, a USB charging port and tea, coffee and hot chocolate making facilities with a choice of bottled water and fresh milk. The room also offers ample hanging space, bath robes, coat hangers, a Freeview TV with built in DVD player, a hairdryer, an alarm clock and assorted toiletries. It has a slightly smaller en-suite shower room than Room One but is equally well supplied with fluffy towels, luxury shower gel and a spacious free standing shower cubicle.
And mentioning views: this is your view from Rooms One and Three – looking towards St Mary’s Church and beyond to the beautiful Blackmore Vale, as featured in Thomas Hardy’s famous ‘Wessex’ novels.
AS OF SPRING 2017: we offer a shared guest refrigerator on the landing for you to use as you wish – this is supplied with complimentary fresh cow’s milk to accompany your in-room tea and coffee. Soya and almond milks are also available on request.
Downstairs, we have a comfortable, book-lined guest breakfast room – you are welcome to use this space however you please. We serve breakfast there each morning, or feel free to enjoy your own picnic, takeaway or a glass of wine in the evening – we’ll provide plates, napkins and glasses.
Many of our guests tell us that they really appreciate having space available to them other than their bedrooms! This room is home to lots of books, maps, local information and our DVD library.

Feedback from Mr. O. after a two night stay here on business:
“Cleo made me feel very welcome indeed. I’d recommend Sunflowers B&B to anyone. I loved the wonderful home cooked breakfast to order (great scrambled eggs!), the take away fresh coffee (not instant), the black out blinds and comfy bed in the room, the fresh milk, water and beer in the guest fridge. So dog friendly that even though I was there on business and without my dog, Cleo sent me home with a free packet of treats for my Labradoodle! Fantastic attention to detail.”
Feedback from Mr. A:
“Cleo is a hugely welcoming, warm and friendly host. It’s always the little things that make a big difference. Being offered a glass of wine on arrival was particularly lovely. Thank you. This is a great place to stay.”

Mr PL from Switzerland stayed with us whilst visiting local firm Dextra Group plc on business and commented that:
“Even though I was on a business trip, I felt as if I was at home, which is important when you travel as much as I do as part of your job. Thank you for making the restaurant and taxi bookings for me – and for the loan of an umbrella!”
